I drew it out on paper, then started cutting. There’s nothing more gratifying to me than creating something with your own hands. The dress wasn’t “perfect” but I felt like a Queen in it.

During a cross-country road trip from NYC to L.A. in 2005, my then-boyfriend asked me to be his wife. I don’t think he realized that if he married me that he would be marrying my DIY habits, too!

• Late night sewing

One of the first things I noticed when I first saw this photo is that I could see my shoulder blade. Unintentionally, I went down from 180 lbs (9 months pregnant) to  118 pounds two years after the birth of our child. Magic trick – the stress of being a first-time mom with lots of unfinished projects AND lots of breast feeding.

The other thing I noticed is that darn zipper again. I don’t think I thought that one through.

Here’s a toast to all the crafty DIYers out there. Thank you for creating, juggling, and blogging about your journey. I’m inspired. And for you future DIY champions, take notes from our daughter ~ when someone says “let’s toast”, that means milk for you.

Materials: Scrap cork board, popsicle sticks, baby food jars, hot glue

Step 1: Cut the cork (based on the measurements you need).

Step 2: Hot glue the popsicle sticks to the ends of the cork to make your dividers. (The popsicle sticks keep the cork from curling/bending on the ends).

 Step 3: Place your dividers where you need them and hotglue them in place.

I used baby food jars to store all the loose items (batteries, candles, etc.).  

What do you do with the lids of the baby food jars, you inquire? Make a headboard, of course! click the picture to read how I did it!

A funny thing happened on the way to the $1 sale! I used to shop for clothes based on what I currently wear – even if I had to make minor adjustments. Now, I shop for the fabric!! I really don’t care what the outfit is (a skirt, a jacket, pants, etc.), if the fabric calls my name, then I have to take it home.

I found this yellow linen-like shirt at the$1 dollar sale that Jet Rag (Los Angeles) has every Sunday. The fabric felt good in my hands, the color POPS against my skin. What more can I ask for?

Caz at A Little Learning for Two blog caught my eye with this flippin’ awesome redo – a crib made into a desk for two children! The family has 2 daughter and one of them has autism. This blog is a “collection of ideas for taking all of the little things and making big opportunities to learn and create.”
